Socio-Hydrological Vulnerability

In Mexico City, and thanks to a British Council grant, AA Groundlab has developed alongside the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) and the British Geographical Survey (BGS) a digital tool for policy makers to assess the socio-hydrological vulnerability in Mexico City according to different scenarios.

Full Description

The tool evaluates vulnerability both in a current scenario and in the future, based on projections of increasing pressures due to climate change, land-use and population variation in 2050. It has been developed to understand how the implementation of ecotechnologies such as constructed wetlands, rain harvesting and others, can impact the current socio-hydrological vulnerability to help mitigate the impact of climate change and water security in Mexico City. The tool analyses the impacts of these solutions by distributing constructed wetlands across the city, highlighting the areas with most risk and assessing different schemes for optimizing resilience and mitigating the vulnerability of the community. The results are published in an online, interactive model that aims to provide local actors with a responsive tool that can support decision making.
